Here at Sovereign Health Care, we are proud to call the diverse and vibrant city of Bradford our home. In 2025, Bradford will be the UK City of Culture and, to celebrate this accolade and give a taste of what’s to come, there’s an exciting schedule of summer events this year. Here are some of the highlights:
Bradford Literature Festival
Celebrating its tenth year, Bradford Literature Festival is the most eclectic festival of its kind in Europe. Running from 28 June – 7 July 2024, the festival will deliver over 500 events across the 10 days, with a programme including exhibitions, readings, local tours, panel talks, concerts and other performances. Discussions will be based around world affairs, homelessness, faith, global futures and more, with guests including poet Lemn Sissy, comedian and novelist, Sara Pascoe, and actress Miriam Margolyes. Tickets are available now.
Bradford Dragon Boat Festival
Get set for adrenaline fuelled dragon boat racing and land-side attractions for the whole family in Roberts Park, Saltaire, on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July. The annual event is a fantastic community festival including children’s entertainment, charity stalls, catering stands, games, bar, live acts and much, much more Bradford Dragon Boat Festival.
Where It Began
This art exhibition by Osman Yousefzada explores themes of migration, identity and community and forms part of the countdown to Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture. Find out more about the relationship between the British Empire and South Asia and the implications for Bradford at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery – the exhibition is free and open until 13 October 2024.
Les Girafes
On Saturday 24 August at 4pm, seven towering giraffes, who’ve travelled all the way from France, will lead a street parade through Bradford city centre, to celebrate the build up to Bradford 2025. They’ll be accompanied by street performers, musicians and more. Created by legendary French street theatre company Compagnie OFF, everyone is welcome to this free, family friendly event.
